According to Kris Aquino, one way to measure the progress of a city is by counting the number of Starbucks branches that is/are operating in the area. Today August 19, 2016, Starbucks Philippines’ officially opened their 3rd store here in Iloilo City at the Northwing entrance of SM City Iloilo. This famous international chain of coffee shop first opened here at SM City Iloilo Southpoint in 2011 and two years ago, its 2nd branch at Robinson’s Place Iloilo.
I was informed that after 2 days, the branch in Southpoint will open at 9AM and close at 1AM while the branch here at the northwing will open at 7AM up to 10PM. The furnitures are very much the same like in other branches though I like the classy green matsuka tiles at their Robinson’s branch. One of the unique features of their interior here is the carved “coffee belt of the world” that includes Latin America, Asia Pacific and the African-Arabian territories- the best places in the world where coffee is grown.
As of now, the most number of Starbucks in the country operates in “imperial” Manila while Cebu has 14 branches, Negros has 2, Boracay 1, Davao 3, CDO 2 and 1 in Gen. Santos City. I just don’t know about the figures in other cities.
So, with this addition of Starbucks in Iloilo, I’m sure a lot of Ilonggos, expats and tourists will be very happy.
