Christmas can simply be defined as the happiest time of the year. In celebrating the birth of our savior Jesus Christ, we treasure and value family ties the best way we can during this time of the year. Most of us believe in the spirit and essence of Christmas and SM City is one with all in marking this joyous occasion. It has always been known that Filipinos tend to celebrate Christmas the longest, that’s why even a couple of weeks before December, #MerrySMChristmas 2014 was launched with a bang yesterday. The program started simply when the guest of honor, World Mayor 2014-nominee and Iloilo City Mayor Hon. Jed Patrick E. Mabilog and the Mall Management welcomed everyone!
Having the opportunity to seat in front along with other bloggers and members of the local media, we were very lucky to be part of the program. And it has just began. I wasn’t honestly expecting a grandiose and elaborate opening this year since we have just observed the 1st anniversary of the disasters around Visayas that were brought by Typhoon Yolanda. Last year’s Christmas House was not just about strong family ties but was the symbol of our resilience as Filipinos in difficult times and the strength to stand up as one. A year later, we have not only helped the victims move on but we have also seen unpredicted growth in the city’s booming economy.
Surely as Ilonggos, we have more reasons to be grateful for all the wonderful things that have come our ways despite our everyday struggles in life. Wherever you may be around the world, SM City recognizes your contributions in building a stronger nation for all of us Filipinos.
Mayor Jed also invited everyone to support the 1Meal Program
by purchasing a teddy bear for P200.00. With each purchase, another stuffed toy bear will be given to the children at the typhoon-stricken areas. Children wearing different costumes from around the world also kicked-off the program followed by other dance performances from Spain and China.
Fil-Norwegian celebrity Markki Stroem then surprised everyone with “Joy to the World” along with the international award-winning Troubadours of the University of San Agustin as the red curtain was removed giving the audience the first-look of SM City Iloilo’s Grand Christmas Tree for this year. Fireworks and glamorous dolls in costumes from around the world added adornment to the stage.
Finally Santa Claus approaches the stage and everyone had pictures taken. Of course, me and Sir Zedrick with Markki too at the backstage. Cafe Laguna catered for this event’s food and it was all delicious. So far, this has been one of the most memorable Christmas launching that we’ve had here in Iloilo thanks to SM City Iloilo. Every year, we see something new and always experience Christmas with a blast along with our family and friends to this ultimate shopping destination.
Don’t forget to use the hashtag #MerrySMChristmaswhen you visit the mall and post something in your social networks. Cheers to Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year and SM City Iloilo!
