Iloilo Convention Center Presentation at Megaworld’s Iloilo Business Park

Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, Arch. Willy V. Coscolluela, Archbishop Angel Lagdameo, Megaworld First Vice For Business Development President Jericho Go and Iloilo City Congressman Jerry Treñas, Iloilo Governor Arthur Defensor, Megaworld’s CEO and founder Dr. Andrew Tan, City Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and Senator Franklin Drilon led the unveiling of the design of the iconic Iloilo Conention Center at the old Iloilo Airport site , now known as the Iloilo Business Park. The 54.5-hectare township site was acquired by Megaworld Corporation to develop it with condominiums, hotels, BPO offices, malls and other commercial establishments making it a one-stop destination where one can live, work and play.
Everyone at the Old Iloilo Airport site which is now Megaworld Corporation’s property were really impressed with the design of the Convention Center that will be constructed and be done by 2015. What made the design very significant to Iloilo was the inspiration that the architect got from the sailboats of the Paraw Festival, a long-time sailing event done in Villa beach, Iloilo City every February. It also embodies tribe warriors of the Dinagyang Festival in its facade.
The 1.7-hectare lot where the convention center will rise was donated by Megaworld to Iloilo City. The construction and management of the convention center will be bidded out to private entities.

A closer look at what will soon become another icon of tourism in Iloilo.
