Central celebrates 107th University Day

CPU will hold its 107th University Day on August 30, 31 and Sept 1, 2012 with the theme: Central Philippine University: A Paragon of Excellence”. The annual celebration will be full of campus activities which includes sports and literary competitions. Intramurals take off on August 13 with a sports parade at 1:00 PM around the CPU Quadrangle, and an opening program at 2:00PM at the Alumni Promenade Concert Park. Games begin at 3:00PM.
On August 30, students, faculty and staff will join in the Foot and Float parade which starts at 6:30 A.M. The parade passes through the main thoroughfares of Jaro district, moving around the Plaza and back to CPU where an opening program will be held at the Grandstand. Different colors will dominate CPU’s Big Field in the afternoon when participants from different departments amuse spectators with the rhythmic and hilarious Cheering and Yelling competition which begins at 1:00PM.
Expect a big crowd at the Rose Memorial Auditorium where the Search for Mr. & Miss CPU will be held at 6:00PM. The popular search is attended by different academic, business and media personalities. Several winners from the past Mr. & Miss CPU pageant have earned titles in the Miss Dinagyang Iloilo and other local and national beauty pageants. Other competitions like the Dance Sports, Hip Hop, Interpretative Dance and Battle of the Bands will also be held on the same day.
Different academic departments and student organizations will have their picnics at different locations inside the campus on August 31(Friday). The University Picnic is a time where students, teachers and friends have fun and fellowship.
In designated places particularly at the Half Moon drive, booths are set up where anyone can buy snacks, delicacies and souvenirs. The fiesta atmosphere also comes with the whiff of mouth watering barbecue that seems to linger with the crowd until late in the evening. Elsewhere are small groups of musicians who` call the shots’ to party and dine.
The three day affair will be capped by the 2012 Alumni Homecoming and General Assembly to be held on Saturday, September 1 from 8:00AM to 3:00PM at the Rose Memorial Auditorium. CPU Alumni come back from different places in the country and abroad to renew friendships and association with long lost classmates and friends. The Alumni will proceed to the Amigo Terrace Hotel, Iloilo City for the `CPU Alumni Night’ which begins at 7:00PM. For reservations call Tina at 3291971 loc 1033 or visit www.cpu.edu.ph
