Buri Handicrafts Making at Brgy. Dic-um, Tobias Fornier

Buri is a kind of palm that has leaves that are dried to use in making hats, mats, and other items. This is one of the livelihood of the locals at Brgy. Dic-um in Tobias Fornier.  Together with the students from the University of the Philippines in the Visayas Iloilo City under the supervision of Prof. Sumagaysay, we tried making our own products from the material. It was nice to interact with the locals so that we were making it right.
But instead of sitting around and working with a group, I walked around and had fun by trying some of the products that were for sale and taking some shots. Later on, I was asked to be one of the judges as the groups raced to finish in making their own bags from the buri.
Located in the southermost part of Antique, it is blessed with this beautiful shoreline.
